King Johns Summer Prom – Trim Castle
July 21st & 22nd 2017 8pm
This July a special gig is organised in front of King John’s Castle, Trim, Meath to raise money for the Sean Lawlor Foundation and local groups. King John’s Summer Prom takes places on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd of July 2017 from 8pm.
The idea came about when Eric Lawlor thought that an orchestra would look well in front of the Trim Castle playing movie scores from different movies to try and raise funds for the Sean Lawlor Foundation (established to support Irish based professional artists diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Sean passed away on October 10th 2009 after a short battle with cancer) and other local organisations.
With a state of the art stage being built along with an outdoor arena and seated area this event promises to be the highlight of the summer calendar. The wonderful Drogheda Orchestral Collective will be backing some of the best talent the country has to offer. The event will be MC’d by Theresa Lowe (former RTE television and radio presenter).
The event will be opened on Friday 21st by, local multi award winning singer/songwriter, Kathy Crinion along with one of the idols from RTE and Irish TV, musician/composer/conductor Frank McNamara. Kathy will be followed on stage by Leah Barniville, 2017 Britains Got Talent semi finalist. The orchestra will play a number of themes such as the medleys from James Bond, Lawrence of Arabia, Dances with Wolves, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, Les Mis along with many more. There will be lots of actors from the big stage and small screen along with members from the original film Braveheart. The acts will be introduced on stage by well known movie stars including Patrick Bergin, James Robinson , Mhairi Calvey, Kate O Toole and many more.
Saturday 22nd of July promises to match Friday nights performance with an opening by Kern, a contemporary folk band from County Louth followed by Maria Buttlerly, The Girl Talk – with vocalist Mark McKenna from Sing Street , Mike Hanrahan & Leslie Dowdall , Patrick Bergin, Don Baker and Leah Barniville. These performances will all be backed by the wonderful Drogheda Orchestral Collective.
